During the early 1960’s, the development firm of Allegheny Mountain Lakes, Inc. had an idea for an outstanding, year-round, resort community. The resort would be nestled in Pennsylvania’s Laurel Mountains. A site was selected, dam built and Indian Lake became a reality. In addition to everything the lake had to offer, their plans also called for a championship golf course. To create their dream course, Arnold Palmer was hired as the course architect, his first golf course design. Exhibiting a “Master’s” flair, Palmer’s course lay-out exceeded all expectations. Ground was broken in late 1965, and the nine hole golf course officially opened for play in 1967. In 1974, Allegheny Mountain Lakes, Inc. decided to sell the course. A group of residents from Indian Lake purchased the property and formed the present day Indian Lake Golf Club. The original members used a maintenance shed as a clubhouse, but as the membership grew so did the need for a larger facility. In 1983 a new clubhouse was built. The rustic clubhouse was designed to blend into the woodland setting. Its comfortable ambiance is perfect for meeting friends, having snacks after golf, hosting social activities and catering member events. It offers bar and light food service, and a slate of activities for members and their guests. In late 1993, the membership voted to complete the second nine holes of the golf course. Construction of the “new nine” began in 1994. The “Opening Day” scramble in May, 1996, officially dedicated the “new nine”. Indian Lake now had its championship 18-hole golf course!! The spectacular layout and dramatic design of the golf course offers an exciting and challenging experience. The front nine presents strategically placed sand traps and a magnificent par 3 overlooking Indian Lake. The back nine is laced with ponds and streams and a unique par 3 that consists of the tee, the pond and the green. Tree lined fairways, undulating greens, and abundant wildlife truly make this golf course . . . a Master’s Creation.
